Slant markers in the headstone industry relate to the shape and size when compared to traditional vertical or flat monuments. Slants can be mounted on its own granite base, a concrete slab or directly on the ground. A slant will have typically a slated face a vertical backing with or without a toe in the front. This toe is usually 2-3 inches tall and adds a custom look to the slant monument. Slants offer a better view of the inscriptions when approaching it. Flat ground marker must be viewed when you are looking down on the marker.
Slats are in between the flat marker and the Vertical monument when compared for size and pricing. All cemeteries have strict size requirements and material specifications. Always check with your cemetery for guidelines.
Slant monuments come in various precut sizes from granite manufacturers; these sizes are tested throughout the majority of cemeteries in the USA. Custom slants is an option that can be made by special order. Slants like flat headstones can include many designs, words and porcelain inset photos. If large enough and it meets the cemetery guidelines a slant can have multiple family members engraved on it. Including, Poems, Verses and religious art work engraved on it. Setting is an easy task, usually done by setting the base in place then either pinning or glueing the slant in position. Due to its weight when mounted firmly in place there is very little concern for movement.
Slants come in many colors of granite; Black granite is the best cost option due to its availability. Special order colors for Blue Pearl and Ruby Red may have longer lead times if the supplier is located overseas. It’s common to see long lead times of 6-9 months when special ordering non stock colors.
Slants have a couple of choices for the profile of the tablet. Serp tops are very common adding an elegant curve to the top. Also, in addition to the Serp curve is rock pitch sides, Rock pitch gives the appearance of the old chisel look of chipped granite sides. This combination adds a timely look. Slants can be polished with straight cuts for a more conservative look, polished on all surfaces. All these options can be reviewed with your designer before cutting stone.
